Occupy Gezi NYC: Demands from Taksim Solidarity to Turkish Govt Pt 1

  • Zuccotti Park, New York City, June 8, 2013-- Over a thousand Turkish-Americans and their supporters chanted, jumped, clapped and otherwise peacefully expressed their fierce opposition to Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan's ill-conceived plan to redesign Taksim Square and replace Gezi Park with an Ottoman-era military barracks style mall. For the past nine days, protestors have created a vibrant community at Gezi Park, Taksim Square, Beyoglu, Istanbul, with 24/7 food, a library, medics, music and dance. Video: Today at Zuccotti, at around 2pm, an excerpt form the Taksim Solidarity Gezi group's demands were read out, mike check style, by Asli Bulbul, a Turkish dancer and professor living in New York. The protest was coordinated by OccupyGeziNYC, OWS and AKNY-Greece. Filmed and Edited by Liza Béar
