New York City approves Municipal ID Cards

06/26/2014 Nyc_new_id_card

We congratulate the New York City council on passing a law that will provide city issued identification cards to local residents, regardless of their immigration status, and with the option of designating one's gender. This bill was introduced to provide further opportunities to New York residents, who were unable to access banking, housing loans, or job opportunities due to their lack of sufficient identification. Also, the law will create "a pathway for homeless New Yorkers to obtain a municipal ID."
